The Lok Sabha on Monday introduced two important legislations—the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025 and the Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025—before being adjourned till 2 PM following loud protests and sloganeering by opposition MPs.
Speaker Om Birla issued a stern warning to opposition members disrupting proceedings, particularly those protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar.
“If you ask questions with the same force with which you are shouting slogans, it will be beneficial for the people of the country. The people have not sent you to destroy government property,” Birla said, cautioning that “decisive decisions” would be taken if members engaged in damaging behaviour.
The Speaker reminded MPs that assemblies in the past had taken strict action against such incidents and urged them to refrain from causing damage.
Meanwhile, leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee, and Kanimozhi, staged protests inside Parliament premises, demanding a halt to what they termed “Silent Invisible Rigging” in Bihar. The opposition accused the BJP and Election Commission of engaging in “vote chori.”
The protests continued despite the Election Commission’s clarification on Sunday, where CEC Gyanesh Kumar dismissed allegations of bias as an “insult to the Constitution.” He also asked Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to either submit a signed affidavit backing his claims of vote theft or issue a public apology.
Since the start of the Monsoon Session on July 21, opposition MPs have repeatedly disrupted proceedings over the voter list revision, while the treasury benches accused them of stalling parliamentary work.
