Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav on Friday echoed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s concerns over the state of the Indian economy, stating that the economic condition is “very bad,” especially in rural India.

Speaking to ANI in the national capital, Yadav said, “The condition of India’s economy is very bad. In Delhi, you may see glitter and development, but go beyond to the villages and rural areas, and you will see the real state of the economy.”

His remarks come in support of Rahul Gandhi, who recently agreed with US President Donald Trump’s critical remarks on India’s economy. Trump had called it a “dead economy” while justifying the imposition of a 25% tariff on Indian imports and criticizing India’s oil trade with Russia.

Commenting on Trump’s remarks, Rahul Gandhi had said, “Everybody knows this except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact… The entire world knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. BJP has finished the economy to help Adani.”

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, wrote, “I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care. We have done very little business with India; their tariffs are too high, among the highest in the world.”

The comments have intensified the political discourse around India’s economic performance, with opposition leaders citing rural distress and rising inequality, while the government continues to project growth and stability.
