Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday highlighted the achievements of the ‘Make in India’ initiative as it completed 11 years, crediting it with enhancing economic strength, fostering innovation, and pushing the country towards greater self-reliance.
“It is gladdening to see how 11 years of Make in India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta. It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
Launched on this day in 2014, Make in India was aimed at accelerating industrial growth, creating jobs, and tapping into the nation’s entrepreneurial potential. Modi noted that the initiative has not only empowered Indian entrepreneurs but also helped create a lasting global impact.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting indigenous production, recalling his address at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show-2025, where he called for an expansion of Swadeshi manufacturing.
“We want everything from chip to ship to be manufactured in India. To support businesses, we abolished over 40,000 compliances and decriminalised more than 1,000 laws,” he said, stressing the importance of ease of doing business.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also marked the milestone, praising India’s advances in defence manufacturing.
“The world is a witness to India’s defence manufacturing strength today. Under PM Modi’s vision, we have scripted landmark achievements that reflect the success of Make in India,” Goyal posted on X.
Underscoring these strides, India on Thursday successfully test-launched the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system, designed to cover a range of up to 2,000 km. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the agencies involved, calling the achievement another step in India’s growing self-reliance in defence.
