Security has been tightened in Manipur’s capital Imphal ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Saturday, with extensive deployment of police and security forces across the city. Streets have been decorated to welcome the Prime Minister.

Modi is on a three-day tour of five states — Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar — from September 13 to 15, during which he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones of projects worth ₹71,850 crore.

The visit will begin in Aizawl, Mizoram, where Modi will launch and dedicate projects worth over ₹9,000 crore in sectors including railways, roadways, energy, and sports. He will also flag off three new trains: the Sairang (Aizawl)-Delhi Rajdhani Express, Sairang-Guwahati Express, and Sairang-Kolkata Express, enhancing direct connectivity for the northeastern state. Key road projects and a Khelo India multipurpose sports hall will also be initiated.

In Manipur, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of projects worth more than ₹7,300 crore at Churachandpur, including major highway upgrades, an urban drainage and asset management project, and the Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) initiative. Working women’s hostels will also be established at nine sites.

Later in the day, Modi will inaugurate projects worth over ₹1,200 crore in Imphal, including the Civil Secretariat, an IT SEZ building, a new Police Headquarters, and all-women Ima Markets in four districts, before addressing a public rally at 2:30 pm.
