Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a roadshow in Varanasi on Thursday while also hosting Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, who is on a state visit to India from September 9–16.

Ramgoolam, who arrived in Kashi on September 9, was given a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel.

According to an official release, PM Modi and PM Ramgoolam will meet at 11:30 AM in Varanasi to review the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation, including development partnership, capacity building, health, education, energy, infrastructure, and emerging domains like renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy.

Later in the day, PM Modi will travel to Dehradun, where he will conduct an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Uttarakhand at 4:15 PM, followed by a high-level review meeting at 5:00 PM.

The meeting in Varanasi reflects the deep civilisational ties and cultural bonds that underpin the India–Mauritius partnership. The visit also builds upon the Enhanced Strategic Partnership announced during PM Modi’s state visit to Mauritius in March 2025.

Mauritius, a key partner in the Indian Ocean Region, holds a central place in India’s MAHASAGAR Vision (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Region) and the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, with cooperation seen as vital to the shared prosperity of the Global South.
