Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday directly reached out to tourists from Maharashtra stranded in Nepal and assured them of all necessary assistance to ensure their safe return.

Officials said nearly 150 tourists from Maharashtra have been stuck in Nepal following the outbreak of violent protests led by Gen Z demonstrators.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also extended her support, stating that the state government was closely monitoring the situation. “I want to tell the tourists stranded in Nepal to wait until the situation stabilises. We are keeping a close watch and will bring all of you back soon,” Banerjee said.

Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad District Administration issued a dedicated helpline number (079-27560511) for citizens of the district currently in Nepal. Relatives of those affected have been urged to contact the helpline for immediate assistance, according to Resident Additional Collector’s office.

The unrest in Nepal has claimed 30 lives since September 8, the Ministry of Health and Population confirmed on Wednesday. A total of 1,033 injuries have been reported across the country. While 713 individuals have been discharged, 253 remain under treatment in 28 hospitals. Kathmandu’s Civil Service Hospital is managing the largest number of patients at 436, followed by the National Trauma Centre with 161 and Everest Hospital with 109.

The Gen-Z-led protests escalated after demonstrators attempted to storm the parliament, prompting security forces to fire live rounds and use tear gas. Protesters also set fire to the Parliament building, the President’s office, and several other government establishments.

The crisis deepened on Tuesday when Prime Minister KP Oli resigned amid the violent unrest. The protests were triggered by the government’s controversial ban on social media apps but have since expanded into a nationwide movement demanding an end to corruption and entrenched favouritism in governance.
