The Indian Consulate in New York marked India’s 79th Independence Day on Sunday (local time) with a grand India Day Parade, one of the largest Independence Day celebrations outside India.
The parade drew wide participation and was attended by dignitaries including US Congressman Shri Thanedar, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and Indian MP Satnam Singh Sandhu.
In a post on X, the Consulate wrote: “Celebrating the 79th Independence Day at the India Day Parade in New York, the largest parade celebration outside India. We extend our thanks to Congressman Shri Thanedar, Mayor Eric Adams, and MP Shri Satnam Singh Sandhu, along with other dignitaries, for joining the celebrations. A special thanks to the Federation of Indian Associations NY-NJ-NE for organizing the 43rd India Day Parade with such grandeur and enthusiasm.”
This year’s Consulate float showcased the theme “Viksit Bharat 2047”, reflecting India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by the centenary of its independence. The float highlighted India’s progress in technology, infrastructure, and digital transformation, symbolising the nation’s aspirations for inclusivity, prosperity, and sustainability.
Celebrations also extended beyond New York. In Pennsylvania, Consul Mahesh Yadav joined the Independence Day programme organised by the Indo-American Community of Scranton, attended by State Senator Marty Flynn and other city leaders.
Meanwhile in New Jersey, Consul Pragya Singh attended a flag-hoisting ceremony hosted by the Indo American Culture Society in Iselin. The event saw enthusiastic participation from the community and was graced by Senator Owen Henry, Mayor John E. McCormac, and Councilman Ajay Patil.
The Consulate noted that the vibrant participation of the Indian diaspora and local communities across the US reaffirmed the deepening cultural ties and shared values between India and America.
