Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, announced the formation of a dedicated task force to spearhead next-generation reforms aimed at transforming India into a developed nation, or ‘Viksit Bharat’, by 2047.

“This task force will work with a fixed timeline to align India’s rules, laws, policies, and practices with 21st-century needs and the global environment,” PM Modi said, adding that the reforms will focus on accelerating growth, improving governance, and ensuring India’s readiness for future challenges.

He underscored the importance of self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, calling upon youth, scientists, and government departments to innovate and create indigenous technologies. A major focus, he stressed, is achieving self-sufficiency in defence manufacturing.

“I urge our young scientists, engineers, and professionals to develop Made-in-India jet engines for our fighter jets,” he said, positioning it as a strategic priority for national security.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi hoisted the tricolour at the Red Fort and was welcomed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Sanjay Seth, and the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. A ceremonial guard of honour, led by Wing Commander Arun Nagar, included 128 personnel from the armed forces and Delhi Police.

Around 5,000 special guests attended this year’s celebrations, including the Indian contingent for the Special Olympics 2025, international sports medal winners, Khelo India Para Games gold medallists, and top-performing farmers from the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission.
