Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated 184 newly built Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament (MPs) at Baba Kharak Singh (BKS) Marg in New Delhi.

Marking the occasion, PM Modi planted a Sindoor sapling within the residential premises and interacted with shramjeevis—the workers who built the flats. The ceremony was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal, and Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju.

The state-of-the-art residential complex is designed to be self-sufficient and equipped with modern amenities, meeting the functional needs of MPs. Built in line with GRIHA 3-star rating standards and the National Building Code (NBC) 2016, the project incorporates green technologies for energy conservation, renewable energy generation, and effective waste management.

Advanced monolithic concrete construction with aluminium shuttering ensured durability and timely completion, while the design also prioritises accessibility for Divyangjan. Each unit offers ample space for residential and official purposes, with dedicated areas for offices, staff quarters, and a community centre to support MPs’ work.

The complex is earthquake-resistant, following modern structural design norms, and features a robust security system. Developed to address a long-standing shortage of MP housing, the project focuses on vertical construction to optimise land use and reduce maintenance costs.

Strategically located near the Parliament House Complex, the new flats provide MPs with easy access to the heart of legislative activity in the capital.
