Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh has extended a strong pitch to the aerospace industry, offering Andhra Pradesh as a new investment destination following Karnataka’s decision to withdraw land acquisition plans for an aerospace park in Bengaluru.
In a post on X, Lokesh promoted Andhra’s aerospace-friendly policies, stating: “Dear Aerospace industry, sorry to hear about this. I have a better idea for you. Why don’t you look at Andhra Pradesh instead? We have an attractive aerospace policy for you, with best-in-class incentives and over 8000 acres of ready-to-use land (just outside Bengaluru)! Hope to see you soon to talk across the table.”
Lokesh’s outreach comes in response to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s announcement that the state would halt the acquisition of 1,777 acres of fertile farmland in Devanahalli taluk, near Kempegowda International Airport, which was initially earmarked for an aerospace park.
CM Siddaramaiah said the decision was made after intensive consultations with farmers and stakeholders. He acknowledged the concerns of the local farming community about the fertility and agricultural importance of the land.
“The land identified is central to the livelihoods of the local farming community. After extensive consultation, we recognised the depth of their concerns and the significance of agricultural sustainability in the area,” Siddaramaiah said.
While a few farmers had expressed willingness to give up their land voluntarily, the Karnataka government has now decided to acquire land only from those who offer it willingly, promising enhanced compensation and developed plots.
The Karnataka CM emphasized that while industrial development is essential, it must not come at the cost of inclusive growth and agricultural welfare.
The cancellation of the project has created an opening for other states like Andhra Pradesh, with Lokesh seizing the moment to position Andhra as a prime alternative, touting its policy incentives, infrastructure readiness, and proximity to Bengaluru.
With the aerospace sector looking for viable alternatives, Andhra Pradesh’s move could significantly influence future investment decisions in the high-tech manufacturing domain.
