The Indian Armed Forces on Wednesday disclosed critical details of Operation Sindoor, a precision military operation conducted in the early hours in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The strikes targeted nine terror sites, including five major camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
During a press briefing in New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh outlined the objectives and execution of the operation. They emphasized that all targets were carefully selected based on verified intelligence, with a strict aim to avoid civilian casualties or infrastructure damage.
Col. Qureshi listed the following key terror facilities destroyed in PoK:
- Shawai Nallah Camp (Muzaffarabad) – A LeT training site linked to recent attacks in Sonamarg, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam.
- Syedna Bilal Camp (Muzaffarabad) – A JeM site used for weapons and jungle warfare training.
- Gulpur Camp (Kotli) – A LeT facility tied to the 2023 Poonch attack and 2024 pilgrimage bus bombing.
- Barnala Camp (Bhimber) – A hub for IEDs, weapons, and jungle survival preparation.
- Kotli Camp – A LeT fedayeen base with a capacity of 15 terrorists.
Wing Commander Singh reiterated the retaliatory nature of the operation: “Operation Sindoor was launched to serve justice to the victims of the heinous Pahalgam attack. The nine terror camps were selected based on credible intelligence and struck with precision to avoid civilian harm.”
She also highlighted that Pakistan has sustained a network of 21 terror-related facilities, including launch pads and indoctrination centres across its territory and PoK for over three decades.
Executed between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM, the operation involved a joint effort from the Army, Navy, and Air Force and marked one of the most coordinated cross-border strikes by India in recent history.
