On International Women’s Day, two women scientists took over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s social media accounts to showcase their remarkable contributions to science. Elina Mishra, a nuclear scientist from Odisha, and Shilpi Soni, a space scientist from Madhya Pradesh, shared their personal journeys and highlighted the growing opportunities for women in the fields of space and nuclear technology.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier announced that on March 8, he would hand over his social media accounts to a select group of inspiring women, giving them a platform to share their work with the nation. Elina and Shilpi used this opportunity to encourage more women to pursue careers in science, emphasizing India’s progress in these sectors.

Elina Mishra spoke about her inspiration, her father, who ignited her passion for science. She shared her achievements, including her work on electromagnetism and her involvement in the successful acceleration of a 20 MeV proton beam at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

Shilpi Soni, with over two decades of experience at ISRO, expressed her pride in working on critical communication and navigation missions, contributing to India’s advancement in space technology. She highlighted ISRO’s success in indigenizing advanced space technologies, making India a leader in space innovation.

Both scientists praised India’s growing space and nuclear sectors, urging women to seize the opportunities these fields offer for innovation and growth.
