Uttarakhand Avalanche: Indian Army Rescues 14 More Workers in Chamoli, 47 Saved So Far

The Indian Army successfully rescued 14 more workers from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Saturday morning, who had been trapped under snow after an avalanche struck near Mana village in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, the previous day.

According to the Army, the search and rescue operations have been ongoing for over 24 hours. Brig MS Dhillon confirmed that a rescue party had saved the 14 workers, who are now being transported for medical treatment. One of the rescued individuals is reported to be in critical condition.

The rescue efforts continued through the night, with three injured personnel evacuated by Army-hired helicopters to Joshimath for critical medical care, the Surya Command of the Indian Army posted on X.

In total, 47 out of 55 BRO workers trapped by the avalanche have been rescued so far. Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed the involvement of four Army helicopters in the ongoing operation and reassured that the remaining workers are expected to be rescued soon.

The Uttarakhand government has also issued helpline numbers for those seeking assistance or information regarding the avalanche.
