Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took the oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) on Monday, marking the official start of her role in the newly elected assembly. Gupta arrived at the Delhi Assembly for the first session of the 8th Legislative Assembly, confidently greeting the occasion with a victory sign.

Ahead of the assembly’s opening, Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma assured the people of Delhi that the newly formed government would meet their expectations and fulfill the promises made during the election campaign. He emphasized the government’s commitment to working with the opposition to create good laws that would bring development to the city.

Verma stated, “We will fulfill all the poll promises we made. We want good laws to take Delhi to newer heights. Our resolution is to develop Delhi.”

The first session of the 8th Delhi Legislative Assembly also saw BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely sworn in as Protem Speaker, with the oath administered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The election of the Speaker is set to take place at 2 pm.

Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra called the day historic, highlighting that the people of Delhi have reclaimed their power. “Under CM Rekha Gupta’s leadership, we now have a government that will work for the people of Delhi,” he said.

BJP MLA Lovely also extended his best wishes to AAP’s Atishi, who became the Leader of Opposition, expressing sympathy over how members of her own party referred to her as a “temporary CM.”

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena is scheduled to address the assembly on February 25, after which the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports will be tabled. Later that day, the assembly will discuss the motion of thanks to the LG’s address, with the election of the Deputy Speaker set for February 26.
