Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Rekha Gupta on her swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Delhi, expressing confidence in her leadership and highlighting her journey from grassroots politics to the top post.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Congratulations to Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji on taking oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister. She has risen from the grassroots, being active in campus politics, state organisation, municipal administration, and now MLA and Chief Minister. I am confident she will work for Delhi’s development with full vigour. My best wishes to her for a fruitful tenure. @gupta_rekha.”

Earlier in the day, Rekha Gupta was sworn in as Delhi’s ninth Chief Minister at a ceremony held at Ramlila Ground in the national capital. Six other ministers were sworn in along with her. The official appointment of Gupta and her cabinet was announced by President Droupadi Murmu.

A gazette notification by the Ministry of Home Affairs read, “The President is pleased to appoint Mrs. Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister, National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from the date she is sworn in.”

The six other BJP leaders appointed as ministers in the Delhi cabinet are Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh. The event was attended by top BJP leaders, including PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister JP Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, alongside Chief Ministers and Deputy CMs of other states.

In her address, Rekha Gupta called her appointment a “miracle” and a “new chapter,” symbolizing a transformative shift for women in politics. She also vowed to hold corrupt individuals accountable, stating, “Anyone who has been corrupt will have to give an account of each and every rupee.”

Expressing her gratitude to PM Modi and the BJP high command, Gupta stated, “It is a huge responsibility. I thank PM Modi and BJP high command for having faith in me. I will fulfil my responsibility with utmost honesty. My first priority is to complete all the commitments our party has made, and the second priority is that all our 48 MLAs will work as a team Modi. I never thought I would be a CM of Delhi.”

Rekha Gupta was elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party on Wednesday, ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.
