Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his support for US President Donald Trump’s initiatives aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict, reiterating India’s firm stance that the crisis should be addressed through dialogue and negotiation.

During a joint press conference with President Trump, PM Modi emphasized that India’s position is not one of neutrality, but rather one that advocates for peace. He reaffirmed his belief that solutions to the war cannot be found on the battlefield, stressing the importance of bringing both parties to the negotiating table.

“I have always been in close contact with both Russia and Ukraine, having met the leaders of both nations,” PM Modi said. “Many people believe that India is neutral, but I want to make it clear: India is not neutral. We are on the side of peace.”

The Prime Minister further highlighted his earlier remarks made in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, where he stated, “This is not an era of war.” Modi reiterated his conviction that dialogue, not conflict, is the path to resolving global issues. “I believe that the solution to this war can only be found when both Russia and Ukraine come together at the negotiating table. I fully support President Trump’s efforts in this regard and hope that he succeeds soon,” Modi added.

Earlier in their bilateral meeting, PM Modi spoke about the ongoing war and the necessity of negotiations. “I am glad that President Trump has taken steps to restore peace, including holding phone calls with both President Putin and President Zelenskyy. Many people think India is neutral in this situation, but that is not the case. India is firmly on the side of peace. From the very beginning, I have emphasized the need for dialogue, diplomacy, and a peaceful solution,” he said.

PM Modi’s remarks reinforced India’s long-standing position that problems cannot be solved through warfare. “When I met President Putin, I told him publicly that this is not the era of war. I am firm in my belief that the issues can only be resolved through negotiation. We support every effort made toward peace, and we appreciate all the efforts taken by President Trump,” he concluded.
