Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be staying at Blair House, the prestigious guest residence for distinguished visitors to the White House, during his upcoming two-day visit to the United States.

Located at 1651 Pennsylvania Avenue, directly across from the White House, Blair House is far more than just a luxury accommodation. Known as “the world’s most exclusive hotel,” it has hosted presidents, royalty, and global leaders throughout its history. This iconic property is a 70,000-square-foot extension of the White House and comprises four interconnected townhouses. With 119 rooms, including 14 guest bedrooms, 35 bathrooms, three formal dining rooms, and even a beauty salon, Blair House offers a five-star experience, reflecting American craftsmanship and history through its antique furniture, fine art, and historical artifacts.

Ahead of his visit, the Indian flag has been proudly displayed at Blair House in anticipation of PM Modi’s arrival. The Prime Minister is traveling to the US at the invitation of President Donald Trump, marking his first visit to the country since Trump began his second term.

In a statement before his departure, PM Modi emphasized the importance of the visit, which aims to further strengthen the partnership between India and the US. “Although this will be our first meeting following his historic electoral victory and inauguration in January, I have a very warm recollection of working together during his first term to build a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the US,” he said.

“This visit will allow us to build upon those successes and deepen our collaboration, particularly in technology, trade, defense, energy, and supply chain resilience,” PM Modi added. “We will work together for the mutual benefit of our people and shape a better future for the world.”

Since November 2024, PM Modi and President Trump have spoken by phone twice. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended President Trump’s inauguration and later met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as well as participating in the QUAD Foreign Ministers’ meeting in January 2025.

The relationship between India and the US was elevated to a “Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership” during President Trump’s visit to India in February 2020. Under Trump’s first administration, the Indo-Pacific region became a major focus of US foreign policy.

PM Modi is visiting the US after completing a three-day trip to France, where he also met with US Vice President JD Vance. Their discussions centered on mutual interests, particularly the US’s role in helping India diversify its energy sourcing, including through investments in reliable US nuclear technology.

Following their meeting, PM Modi and Vice President Vance, along with Second Lady Usha Vance, shared coffee. PM Modi also took the opportunity to present gifts to the Vance children and wished Vice President Vance’s son, Vivek, a happy birthday.

The White House released a statement describing the meeting, which highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the two nations on energy and other key areas.
