As India celebrates its 76th Republic Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the occasion in his signature style, wearing a vibrant multi-coloured turban that embodies his deep connection to the country’s culture and heritage.

Known for his sartorial choices, especially his turban selections for Republic Day, PM Modi once again drew attention with his bold fashion statement. For the 2025 Republic Day, he chose a striking multi-coloured turban in shades of red and yellow. The turban was paired with a brown bandhgala coat, complete with full sleeves, and accessorized with a multi-coloured pocket square and churidar pants.

Before attending the Republic Day celebrations at Kartavya Path, PM Modi paid his respects to the nation’s fallen soldiers, observing a two-minute silence to honor their supreme sacrifices in protecting India’s sovereignty.

This year’s Republic Day celebrations were graced by President Droupadi Murmu, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, and other distinguished dignitaries.

PM Modi’s attire, particularly his signature turban, has always symbolized patriotism and national pride. On social media, he wished the nation with a heartfelt message: “Happy Republic Day. Today, we celebrate 75 glorious years of being a Republic. We bow to all the great women and men who made our Constitution and ensured that our journey is rooted in democracy, dignity, and unity. May this occasion strengthen our efforts towards preserving the ideals of our Constitution and working towards a stronger and prosperous India.”

Reflecting on his past Republic Day appearances, PM Modi’s choice of headgear has always sparked admiration. In 2024, for the 75th Republic Day, he wore a vibrant yellow turban paired with a white kurta and brown Nehru jacket, showcasing his love for India through traditional Rajasthani Bandhini prints. The previous year, for the 74th Republic Day, he wore a multi-coloured Rajasthani turban, symbolizing India’s diversity.

In 2022, PM Modi chose a traditional cap from Uttarakhand, adorned with a Brahmakamal-inspired brooch, honoring the state flower of Uttarakhand. For the 2021 Republic Day, he wore a special Jamnagar turban, gifted by the royal family of Jamnagar, Gujarat, complemented by a grey jacket and kurta.

Each year, PM Modi’s turbans tell a unique story of India’s cultural richness. His look for the 76th Republic Day continues this tradition, honoring the nation’s diverse heritage while symbolizing unity and pride.
