The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi for his controversial remarks about “fighting the Indian State.” BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia accused Gandhi of irresponsibility and alleged that his actions undermined the nation’s sovereignty.

Addressing a press conference, Bhatia said, “It is unfortunate that India has a part-time and immature Leader of Opposition like Rahul Gandhi. His recent remarks about fighting the Indian State have hurt the nation. India deserves a more responsible and faithful LoP. Rahul Gandhi’s actions and words do not reflect the integrity and dignity required for such a position.”

Bhatia further accused Gandhi of being influenced by foreign entities. “He is guided by forces like George Soros and others who oppose the integrity of our country. Rahul Gandhi’s statements and actions consistently harm India’s sovereignty. This is not the first time he has made such irresponsible remarks. His behavior is a disgrace to his role as the Leader of the Opposition,” he added.

BJP President JP Nadda also criticized Gandhi and the Congress party, alleging that they have a history of aligning with forces that weaken India. “Congress has a history of encouraging those who want a weak India. Their greed for power has led them to compromise the nation’s integrity and betray the trust of the people. But the people of India are wise and will always reject Rahul Gandhi and his outdated ideology,” Nadda said.

The controversy erupted after Rahul Gandhi, while inaugurating Congress’ new headquarters, Indira Bhawan, accused the BJP and RSS of capturing India’s institutions and claimed that the opposition is now battling not only the BJP but also the Indian State itself.

“Our ideology, like the RSS ideology, is thousands of years old, and it has been opposing the RSS for centuries. This is not a fair fight. If you believe we are merely fighting a political organization like the BJP or RSS, you are mistaken. The BJP and RSS have captured every single institution in this country. We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself,” Gandhi said.

He also expressed doubts about the functionality of Indian institutions and the fairness of the media. “We do not know whether our institutions are functioning or not. It is clear what the media is doing, and people know the media is no longer free or fair,” he added.

Gandhi’s remarks have sparked widespread criticism from the BJP, which accuses him of damaging India’s democratic and institutional framework. The BJP claims that such statements expose the Congress’ desperation as the party struggles to regain its footing on the national stage.

With the BJP sharpening its attacks and the Congress rallying behind Rahul Gandhi, the political atmosphere continues to heat up ahead of key state and national elections.
