Terrorists and security forces are engaged in an exchange of fire in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda after they attacked a security checkpost in Chattragala area on Tuesday night, police said on Wednesday morning.

Five jawans and a sub-divisional special police officer (SDPO) were injured in the encounter that began after terrorists opened fire at a joint checkpost of police and Rashtriya Rifles at an army base in the Chattargala area on the Bhadarwah-Pathankot road in Doda.

This comes in the wake of the terror attack in Hiranagar village in Kathua district on Tuesday night in which one terrorist was killed and Sunday’s terror attack in Reasi in which ten pilgrims were killed.

On Tuesday evening ultras attacked a house in Saida Sukhal village in Hiranagar village in Kathua, a senior police officer said. One Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan and one terrorist was killed in the encounter between terrorists and security personnel. A hunt has ben launched to track another terrorist who managed to escape.

Security Forces are conducting a search operation in the Hiranagar area following the terror attack last night, Dr Vijay Raina, Chief Medical Officer of Kathua said.

“A CRPF personnel was brought dead to the hospital last night. Our entire team of doctors are present here to tackle any situation. Post-mortem to be conducted,” the chief medical officer said today.

Meanwhile, the security forces have cordoned off the area.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Jammu, Anand Jain said, “These terrorists entered the village at around 8.30 pm on Tuesday and asked for water from villagers. As soon as we received the information about these terrorists, a team of SHO and SDO immediately rushed to the spot. One of the terrorists was killed in an encounter with forces when he tried to lock a grenade on them. The search operations are underway to apprehend the second escaped terrorist.”

“They also fired at civilians. One terrorist has been killed and a search for the other one is going on,” he said.

This is the second terror attack in Jammu in just three days.

On speculations of Pakistan’s involvement in the attack, the ADGP conveyed, “It is our hostile neighbour who always tries to damage the peaceful environment in our country. This (Hiranagar Terror attack) appears to be a fresh infiltration. One terrorist has been killed and the search operation for the other is underway.”

At least nine people were killed and 42 others were injured in the attack on a bus carrying pilgrims from Shiv Khori shrine that took place on Sunday evening, June 9, in Reasi district. The bus plunged into a gorge following the attack. The Jammu and Kashmir police have said that the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba is believed to be behind the attack. JK police have formed 11 teams to investigate the attack.

A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) assessed the situation in Reasi on Monday and the NIA’s forensic team is working on collecting evidence.
