JP Nadda takes oath as minister in Modi 3.0 cabinet

BJP leader Jagat Prakash Nadda took oath as a Union Cabinet minister in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday evening.

With this Nadda, who has been serving as the BJP President since 2019 has entered the BJP cabinet. Earlier, he was Union Health Minister in BJP government from 2014-19.

The party contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and several assembly polls under his leadership.

He is currently Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat.

In 2010, he was made the National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was elected as a Rajya Sabha member in 2012 for the first time.

He was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and was elected ABVP’s National Secretary in 1989. In 1991, he was made the President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA secured 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. BJP won 240 seats on its own. In the 543-strong lower house of the Indian parliament, 272 is the minimum majority figure.

Notably, PM Modi created history today by becoming the second Indian leader to win a third term after founding prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
