BJP candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur seat, Paras Nath Rai said on Wednesday that his party will win the seat comfortably as there are no sentiments of sympathy on the death of politician-turned gangster Mukhtar Ansari.

Paras Nath Rai told ANI that the day Mukhtar was killed, the district heaved a sigh of relief.

“Mukhtar Ansari was a symbol of terror for this district. His terrorism had international connections as well. The day Mukhtar was killed, the district heaved a sigh of relief. He (Afzal) has been an MLA from here five times, an MP twice but has no control over his speech,” he said.

“17 people were killed in Mau riots, Krishnananda Rai was killed, was this protection of the oppressed?” he added.

Further, the BJP candidate said that the SP-BSP alliance is not there and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar is also with them.
“PM Modi has done the work. He has clarified that if we need the development of the country we should look for the development of the poor, youth, farmers and women of the country. BJP is winning comfortably in Ghazipur. There is no problem here. SP, BSP alliance is not there and Om Prakash Rajbhar is also with us. Rajbhar voters have great importance in all these seats,” Rai said.

BJP’s Paras Nath Rai is in the electoral fray against Samajwadi Party’s incumbent MP Afzal Ansari.

In the 2019 elections, Ansari won the seat and gathered 5,66,082 votes. He defeated Manoj Sinha, the present Jammu and Kashmir governor, who got 4,46,690 votes.

Afzal Ansari in his public meeting is raking up his brother Mukhtar Ansari’s death. He appeals to the people to teach the lesson to concerned people by ensuring his win.

The road is not clear for Afzal Ansari, even if he will win the seat. He was convicted by a court in a Gangster Act case and awarded four years in jail.

The case is going on in the Allahabad High Court and if it upholds the lower court’s decision, Afzal will have to leave the electoral fray.

If a court announces the conviction of a public representative and gives a minimum of two years imprisonment, he loses membership of the House with immediate effect.
